Our friendly beaver, Buzzy, was brought on board as our mascot and logo in 1986.  His real name is “Barton-Pierre” which signifies our involvement in both Ontario and Quebec, Canada.  It was thought that Barton-Pierre was too much of a mouthful so we abbreviated it to “Buzzy”!

The beaver is the Canadian national animal and we dressed Buzzy in the old fighter pilot flying hat, goggles and scarf to signify the airfreight characteristics of our operation.  In around 1987 we registered our logo with the Canadian and U.S. patent offices as a “service mark”.  We supply a service and thus the “service mark” or “SM” by Buzzy’s left foot.  Patent laws require this “SM” to be shown on our logo. 

Initial press announcements around that time claimed that Buzzy was actually our Customer Service Manager and would monitor each customer’s shipment within our system to ensure “top notch” service.  Since then the logo has adorned T-shirts, coffee mugs, jackets and many other articles (even our operations control software system!) and we believe it to be well established and liked in the market.

As an example, we have one customer who, when calling us on the phone, would only make beaver sounds when we answered.  Our response was always…”hello Mitch”!

While we are on the subject of history, our company name was designed around our services crossing the Canadian/U.S. border.  However, back in ’85, we realized the “Transborder” name would also serve us well if we opened up domestic operations as we would be crossing state borders as well.  How interesting it is that this finally came about after 15 years!

So now you know all about the origins of our little furry friend who is always looking over our shoulder to make sure we look after our customers!
